We had these Melt in the Middle Quorn burgers on a disposable barbecue, and I have to say that preparing them this way probably contributed to making them Ll the more delicious. They work very well so long as you are careful not to let them burst while on the barbecue, something that can easily be done by mistake with your tongs. The burger itself is chewy, pliable, and juicy Quorn. It’s the type of meat substitute I don’t mind eating – unlike many of the various formations, which can be far too bland. Inside the burger, after a couple of bites, you will find soft, melted, oozing, sweet cheese. It starts squeezing out with every bite as soon as you find it, which is really enjoyable. The sweet cheese and the smoky Quorn are then perfectly balanced, even to the point where it is almost a shame to put it in bread. We served them simply with a topping of halloumi, and they worked excellently. No extra toppings or sauce required.
They certainly don’t look like much on the packaging, and I would not have thought to try them at home. Like many of the newer Quorn products, they seem to be suffering from a bit of an identity crisis. They just remind me of the bland and stodgy Quorn I used to eat, and which I have vowed to avoid as much as possible. Who would have guessed that there would be something worth eating hiding away inside? read more
