This week is less of a recipe and more of a demo, as we picked up this Sharaf falafel mix at Vegan Summer Fest Brighton. We tried a sample at their stall and they were delicious, but we wanted to eat some vegan burgers for our lunch so we couldn’t buy the premade ones. We decided instead to pick up a couple of their mixes – this one, for falafels, and a burger mix which we will share soon.
The falafels are super tasty and this is one of the best mixes that I’ve tried. We’ve had some real disaster mixes in the past, so it’s great to find one that works well. The story behind the brand is also super sweet as it’s all family run and demonstrates the story of a kid coming to a new life and wanting to make it big with his traditional recipe.
These are very simple to make – you just need water, a bowl, and an oven. We mixed in the water, left them to set, made them into falafel shapes, and then cooked them. The packaging says you can make 20 with the kit but I made a little less, so I probably made them too big!
We created a little bowl to go with these to take us back to our days in Budapest, with a base of quinoa and then rocket, home-made houmous, and sweet chilli sauce. We then had wraps on the side to create out own falafel wraps as we went. It was super delicious and definitely the best way to eat these falafels. Side note: we will also probably be bringing the houmous recipe out soon once we finish tweaking it.
There’s no recipe this week since it’s all so simple, but here’s the video of putting the whole bowl together!
This sounds like a wonderful recipe, I love Falafel!
I definitely recommend the mix!
I have never made falafels before even though I really enjoy them. It looks so easy with that mix!
I definitely recommend it, it’s pretty fun to make falafels!
Oh I love Falafels and so do my kids, we usually make our own but sometimes we are short on time and a kit like this would be super useful to whip them up quick
