It’s another trip to the Lady Luck, and our favourite vegan/veggie haunt didn’t disappoint with another new special to try. Part of the fun is always finding out what is going to be on the blackboards, and this time it was a butternut squash and falafel burger.
Here’s how it was described on the menu:
Butternut squash + falafel burger, homemade + topped with a spiced apricot chutney + baby spinach in a homemade roll. Served with chips and vegan cacik. Vegan friendly. £9.95
There was a very soft texture to the burger, which I would describe as having a curry-like flavour. Everything tastes as it was described, which is great, and it includes some very interesting flavours. The chutney is lovely and tangy and goes great with the overall burger. I was wondering whether sweet potato might have been a better choice than butternut squash in terms of flavour, but it wouldn’t be a necessary change. The spinach was fresh and tasted great.
There was a lovely, soft, brown bun, which was totally uniform. Unlike other homemade buns, it had no rough areas and was pretty much perfect. As always, it was paired with standard chips like you would expect when ordering at any pub. I had no idea what cacik was until I tasted it and realised it was full of cucumber, which isn’t to my tastes – but not to worry as we picked up some vegan garlic mayo as well.
After our meal we were also treated to a guest, who had literally no interest in us but did find it amusing to sit on a chair and look around the room from there for a while.
The burger sounds delicious. I like falafel burgers a lot (they are my favourite), so I might add some squash next time. It sounds like a really nice addition. I would love to try this one, but they are a bit far from me. 🙂
Definitely give it a try! I wish we could bring the Lady Luck to every part of the UK, honestly… might be a bit easier for us to get to then as well haha!
