This week we were able to try out a great Japanese green tea product which the folks over at Kineta were kind enough to send to us. This single estate matcha tea is organic, veggie- and vegan-friendly, and offers a boost of vitality for your system. It also comes in a cute little tin!
Now, I am the first to admit that I am not a tea fan. Actually, when it comes to hot drinks, I can only really enjoy hot chocolate – and that has to be super thick, super creamy, deeply flavoured chocolate. So when it came to trying this one out I happily handed the duties over to J, my resident tea fiend. He can’t get enough tea (seriously – just ask our kitchen cupboards), so it was down to him to put it to the test.
First of all, the colour of the powder is incredible. It is such a bright green! It almost glows in the dark, and I could never believe something would be so bright in real life. It stays that colour when you actually make it into a drink, too, so it looks amazing!
When I asked him about the taste, J eloquently told me that “it tastes green”. When I pressed him for an explanation as to exactly how it tasted green, he told me it was “like green tea”. After several similar epiphanies, we got to this conclusion: it has an earthy taste, and is a pretty decent green tea for anyone who loves this kind of drink. It also mixes well because it is a powder, which makes it much easier to prepare than the alternatives.
From my time as a health writer I can also add that green tea is pretty good for keeping your system in working order, as it helps to stimulate your metabolism as well as giving you an energy boost. That’s good news all round – so if you love the taste as well, this could be your new addiction!
