Video Recipe: Oreo Chocolate Cubes

This week we’re bringing you some oreo chocolate cubes with a peanut butter centre that will have you melting. We wrapped up all our favourite sweet things in one place with a heaping helping of protein for a gym snack that doubles as a dessert.

The best thing about them is that they’re super easy to make. You don’t need a fancy mould (although we used one for fun) – just put them into your ice cube moulds. Make them to the size that suits your moulds and you’re ready to go.

They’re spectacularly tasty with white chocolate, as the sweetness of the chocolate is enough to balance out the plain peanut butter. They’re still probably not as sweet as you’re used to if you’re thinking of something like peanut butter cups, but that’s easy to solve. Just buy the peanut butter produced by confectionary companies for use in sweet treats – it’s more expensive but then that’s to be expected!

These snacks are filled with energy as well as satisfying a major sweet tooth. You don’t need to use special chocolate – we just went for store-brand value bars – but you can of course use your favourite brands if you want them to taste a certain way.

The special mould we used for the cubes is a Dungeons and Dragons ice cube mould that J got from his Loot Crate – it just looked perfect for the job so we had to give it a try! Smaller moulds, intended for average-sized ice cubes, also work well.

One last note – you may notice that our “white” chocolate kind of looks brown. This is because we melted milk chocolate first and then melted white chocolate in the same bowl afterwards. It doesn’t change much but it did give a nice balance to the flavour, so don’t worry about having to clean out your bowl in-between if you’re using two different types of chocolate!

Here’s the video, with our recipe below.

Oreo Chocolate Cubes

Chocolate snacks made in ice cube moulds, with centres of peanut butter and oreo.

Course: Dessert, Snack
Cuisine: American, English
Author: VegBurge
Ingredients
  • 2 oreos
  • 2 tbsp crunchy peanut butter
  • 100 g white chocolate
Instructions
  1. Set up a saucepan on a medium heat filled with water. Suspend a glass bowl over this set-up - it's best if you can find one that fits inside the rim of the saucepan so that it supports itself. Put your chocolate into the bowl and stir it occasionally while it begins to melt.

  2. Meanwhile, mash up the oreos until they are closer to a powder. We used our pestle and mortar, but if you don't own a set, simply use the handle of a utensil and a flat surface to crush them, making sure to keep all of the crumbs together.

  3. Mix the oreos with the peanut butter until they are as combined as you can get them.

  4. Once the chocolate has melted, turn down the heat and get going! Pour some chocolate into the first of your moulds, filling it between 1/5 and 1/3 of the way up.

  5. Roll a piece of the oreo and peanut butter into a rough ball shape (or whatever shape fits your mould!) and place it into the mould. Try to position it right in the middle so that the rest of the chocolate can fill the area around it.

  6. Pour in more chocolate right to the top of the mould, ensuring that the peanut butter is covered.

  7. Once you have filled all of the moulds on your tray, place it into the freezer.

  8. Wait for at least an hour and test your cubes are fully set before eating! It's easiest to use a silicon mould as you can then pop out the finished product easily, but you can also use a knife or other thin object to push the cubes away from the sides of a solid mould if they stick.
