Byron Grilled Portobello Mushroom and Goat’s Cheese Burger

Recently we headed to a branch of Byrons in the Strand area of London. They have two options for veggie burgers on the menu, so I opted for the “Grilled Portobello Mushroom and Goat’s Cheese Burger” served with “roasted red pepper, baby spinach, tomato, red onion and aioli” (taken from the menu). It’s a little disappointing that they don’t have a speciality veggie burger, or at least a few options. If they market themselves as a burger place, you might expect that they would provide alternatives. This is certainly the case in other burger joints that I’ve been to. read more

The Big Easy – Spicy Black Bean Veggie Burger

The Big Easy in Covent Garden has an interesting look right from the entrance. A long corridor leads you into a bar area, where you can wait to be seated with a couple of drinks. The whole building feels a bit like a maze, with more seats around corners and a downstairs area too. The spicy black bean veggie burger is one of just a few vegetarian options. This is perhaps to be expected at a barbecue restaurant however! It costs £10.90, and is described in the menu as follows: “Avocado, Pickle and Chipotle Sour Cream”, “with fresh potato fries and ‘slaw and house pickles”. read more

The Blues Kitchen – Lightly Spiced Creole Bean Burger

The Blues Kitchen Lightly Spiced Creole Bean Burger

Recently I read about The Blues Kitchen opening a new branch in Shoreditch, and as we had a trip to the National Theatre coming up, I decided to book a table for before the show in order to check it out. There’s been quite a lot of hype about this new restaurant, so we went with high expectations – and the good news is that they were met. We went too early to see any music, but we were able to take a look around and enjoy the atmosphere of the early evening. The decor is great and really in keeping with the theme, and the music played during the day fits too whilst not being too annoying – most of it is instrumental. What really struck me about the visit was that a lot of people there seemed to know one another and the waiters, so it seems like there is a community springing up there already. read more
