Having lived just about across the road from one of their branches multiple times, I can’t believe it’s taken me this long to eat at a Slug and Lettuce. All the same, I’ve finally managed to get around to it, and you know what I just had to eat… Here’s the menu description:
Recent weeks have seen two food festivals come to our local area – the Penshurst Fair, and the Tonbridge Castle Food Festival. We managed to grab the time to go to both, and we always love seeing local vendors and picking up some treats. Let’s start with Penshurst, as this was the first of the two events to take place!
Recently we decided it was time to do the proper Sunday lunch thing. Let’s have a traditional veggie nut loaf, we thought – something to enjoy with roast veggies and mash! I tracked down this amazing recipe, which was so easy to make and so, so rewarding. Give it a try if you are after that classic Sunday dinner that is going to last you days and days!
This pesto burger was just a little bit inspired, even if I do say so myself. I saw a recipe for a beef burger imbued with pesto, and decided to set about making it myself. I knew I was going to have to think of a vegetarian replacement, so my mind went straight to Quorn mince. I’ve never used it in a burger recipe before, so this was the chance to jump on the opportunity!
This month we’re kicking off our first monthly Vine theme, with alternative pizzas. Tortillas were our first choice of base: they are healthier and easier to eat than normal pizza dough bases, and also take less time to cook. That makes them a win-win for any work night dinner for us!

One of the staples of the frozen section for vegetarians is Quorn, and although I’ve got a real love/hate relationship with it, I can’t deny that it comes in handy. Living with a meat-eater means that we can compromise by having something that is at least intended to be a bit like meat – and it’s an interesting exercise to see just how closely it hits the mark with someone who knows what it should taste like. For this review I’m looking at their Southern Fried Chicken Burgers, available frozen, which are the kind of thing you’d pick up for a proper burger in a bun or just to eat on the side with fries. The cooking time is around 16 minutes, which is a little better than some burgers from the frozen section, and could make them quite a convenient choice when you’re in a rush. Today, I wanted to talk about a burger which you can buy from the frozen section of Tesco, and which I’ve eaten quite a lot of over the years thanks to the fact that it is convenient to buy and doesn’t taste bad. Although we try to stay away from the higher calorie vegetarian stuff when shopping these days, we do occasionally treat ourselves to something like the Tesco Mexican Style Beanburgers. Sometimes – like the time I’m reviewing today – we’ll eat them just normally as you would any burger, and sometimes we’ll cut them up after cooking into small bite sized pieces, which you can scatter over a salad to make the tastiest croutons available. This is a bit more of an interesting way to eat a veggie burger if you are just starting out as a vegetarian and struggling to find variety. It also brings a bit more flavour and means that you’re not just stuck with boring salad night after night!
