Strong Roots Kale and Quinoa Burgers

This week, we’re chatting about the Strong Roots kale and quinoa burgers. We picked them up in our local Waitrose, but we hear tell that they are also available in Tesco and beyond.

We’ve had these burgers a couple of times, and I can’t say that I have found myself particularly impressed. Then again, I’m not put off by them either. Let’s get a little deeper into what it’s like to eat them.

The first thing I noticed was that they aren’t all the same colours. There’s a lot of variation in the way that they look. As you bite through them, you can see and taste a lot of small vegetable pieces: carrot, beans, broccoli, potato, and kale, from what I could make out. They taste very ‘green’ because of the kale – that is the overwhelming flavour that comes out.

There is a crispy layer on the outside with the quinoa, a different texture to what you find on the inside. To be honest, the quinoa doesn’t stand out too much.

They do taste very healthy. To me, I’m not sure if that’s a good thing. When I eat a burger I do it because I know it’s unhealthy. Even if it’s better for me than the average, I don’t want it to taste that way.

ON THE VEGBURGE SCALE, I GIVE THIS…

TASTE – 6/10

PRICE – 5/10

REST OF EXPERIENCE – 7/10

  1. They sound like something my kids would probably avoid but that I’d enjoy – I’m trying really hard at the moment to cut down on my meat consumption so these would make a good alternative.
