We were in London recently and stopped off at Chik’n to try their Not So Chik’n sandwich (or a burger, to you and me). We found them on Baker Street, not far from the tube, and got our orders in.
It’s very much a fast food experience in that you place an order at the till, stand and wait for your food to come out, and then sit and eat or take it away. However, I did find the staff very attentive, offering to bring the tray over for us and checking that everything was fine with our order.
We picked up the following:

The prices do leave a little to be desired, as you end up paying more than you would in a Wetherspoons (the ultimate benchmark for cheap pub grub). The veggie burger is also 50p more than the plain chicken burger, which doesn’t seem right given what the interior is.
Because it’s Quorn. It’s literally just a Quorn fillet – the taste and shape are both recognisable right away. That’s not to say that it doesn’t taste good, but it does leave you scratching your head.
Anyway, it tastes spectacular. The fillet has been rubbed down with a special herb and spice blend which is really tasty, and to be honest feels really inclusive. It’s not often we veggies can get the full service offered with the meat options, and this really seems like it has been treated the same way.
The lettuce and mayo combination is just perfect here. I’ve always said that shredded lettuce and mayonnaise is the exact right way to go when dressing a burger, and it is done here just the way I like it. It reminds me of the burgers I first started to love as a kid, having fast food as a treat. It’s just spot on.
It also had gherkins which I enjoyed, even though I’m not a fan of gherkins usually – they worked in the overall context. The bun was soft but not too soft or sweet, a good match for the other textures. Our cheesy fries were also pretty spectacular, with a spicy cheesy topping that went down very well indeed.
So, the food is excellent – it’s just the price that doesn’t quite sit right. On balance, do I feel it’s worth it? Maybe not – but I’ll eat there again any day, because if the price point was enough to put people off excellent food, we wouldn’t have Michelin starred restaurants.
These dishes from Chik’n all look so tasty! My favorite fast food chain is Chick-Fil-A and they have very similar sandwiches. I would eat this every day if possible!
This sounds delicious. I’m actually not surprised by the hike in price. Chicken is mass produced in such a way that it costs nothing.
